Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See
Theodore Diehl was named Acting Deputy Chief of Mission in March 2021, having served as Public Affairs Officer since June 2018.
Prior to arriving at the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See, Mr. Diehl served as Special Assistant to the Ambassador and Assistant Information Officer in Tokyo, Japan. His other assignments include Public Affairs Officer in Sapporo, Japan; Deputy Public Affairs Officer and Vice Consul in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; and Political Officer in the Office of Iraq Affairs in Washington, D.C.
Before joining the Foreign Service, Mr. Diehl worked in academia and cross-cultural consulting. He earned a master’s degree in International Relations from San Francisco State University and a bachelor’s degree in Political Economy from the University of Pacific. He also received a postgraduate scholarship to study in Vienna, Austria.
