Ambassador hosts briefing on migration crisis

Ambassador Hackett, in conjunction with the International Union Superiors General (UISG), hosted an information-sharing event in support of women’s religious orders confronting the migration crisis in Sicily. Fellow ambassadors to the Holy See, media, members of religious orders and international migration organizations and staff from the three United States Embassies in Rome attended. After introductions by Ambassador Kenneth Hackett and Sr. Patricia Murray, the Executive Secretary of the UISG, Sr. Elisabetta Flick, responsible for the USIG Migrant Project, presented the Sicily-based project, a collaboration of different congregations of women religious. The panel then discussed the work of religious orders combating the current migration crisis in Europe with the audience, particularly the fate of unaccompanied minors and migrants living outside of official reception centers.
